Cochlear implantation and functional auditory restitution surgeries using implantable devices are one of the pillars of the department's healthcare and academic work. Devices such as cochlear implants and osseointegrated implants require a well-established circuit for the selection, indication and subsequent rehabilitation of patients who may be candidates.
The section also works on the study and management of infantile and congenital hearing loss, as well as on the study of hereditary hearing loss, through close collaboration with the Genetics service.
Another area of ​​action and research consists of the study and assessment of balance disorders and the surgical treatment of cases that can benefit from them, as well as the monitoring and treatment of patients affected by Vestibular Schwannoma.
L’estudi de la permeabilitat nasal representa un dels pilars històrics de l’investigació a la secció de Rinologia. El registre rigorós dels resultats de la rinomanometria anterior activa i la rinometria acústica en tot pacient susceptible de cirurgia septopiramidal i/o turbinal ha permès la publicació de tesis doctorals i altres documents.
La patologia tumoral dels sins paranasals i fosses nasals es objecte de constant revisió, com atesten diverses publicacions sobre tumors malignes (melanoma, carcinomes...) i benignes (papil·loma invertit).
Addicionalment, la secció de Rinologia col·labora activament amb el Servei de Pneumologia del nostre hospital en la recerca sobre la patologia inflamatòria de la via respiratòria i la relació de l’asma amb la rinitis i la poliposi nasal.

Surgery for oncological diseases of the head and neck requires, especially in advanced cases, complex surgical techniques and a multidisciplinary approach.
Since the mid-80s, the service has been at the forefront of clinical research into these neoplasms, prospectively collecting data from our patients. It also works with different teams from the research institute and with other centers in international multi-centre studies.
In the field of salivary gland pathology, works of significant impact have been published at an international level on the surgical management of these tumours.
